Email Hack And Security

Today we will be discussing about Email Hacks and Security. As Emails consist of sensitive information such as our bank account details, credit card details, Paypal details and much more personal information. Emails are already protected with password systems but is that enough for Email Security? The answer is no. We need to know about all the email security to protect our account.

How Hackers Hack email account?


Phishing.

It is a attack to acquire sensitive information from user such as usernames, passwords, credit card details and other information too. In Phishing a Hacker creates a fake website which looks similar to legit website. Phishing is mostly carried out my email spoofing or instant messaging and it often direct user to enter information. Phishing is the continual threat to cyber world which is growing day by day. Most of the Emails are Hacked by Phishing.

Keylogger.

Keylogger is nothing but keystroke logging. In this attack a hacker creates a small software and send you the link of the software or the software directly. The software can be named anything and the icons can be changed so as soon as you try to open the software it gives you an error but actually it is already installed in your PC. And It daily sends the logs of your keystroke to the Hacker. So avoid click or download any software which you are suspicious off.


USB Hacking.

USB Hacking is also known as Pendrive Hacking. A hacker can hack your Email account or any other account if he has physical access to your computer. In this attack a hacker installs some recovering software in his pendrive and also paste a program in his pendrive, which will automatically start scanning your computer as soon as the pendrive is inserted in your pc. It is actually not scanning but recovering the emails and passwords from your Browsers.

Man in the middle attack.

In this attack a Hacker can hack you if you and the hacker are on the same lan on a switch based network. In the attack a Hacker place himself in between the client and the server and captures all information or He can also act as a default gateway.

DNS spoofing attack.

If you and hacker are on the same network then the hacker can use this attack and change your original Email Login Page to a fake phishing  page and can steal your Email id and password. And can get access to your facebook account.


How to Protect Your Email account?

1. Use spam filter in your Email program.

  • Built in Thunderbird.
  • Outlook Express : Norton AntiSpam.

2. Do not open any attachment which you are not expecting or which you are suspicious of.

  • It might have Keyloggers, Trojans or any other malware software.

3. Do not use HTML Emails.

  • Using HTML emails contain hidden tracking Informations.

4. Be very cautious while click on any Link in emails.

  • It might be a Phishing Link or can be keylogger software.

5. Do not reply to spam E-mails.

  • Replying a spam email for unsubscribe may set you for more spam E-mails.

6. Choose a complex E-mail Id.

  • Choosing a Complex email Id will prevent hackers to auto generate your email, send spam emails or target your email for other attacks to.
  • Make sure you choose a email which you can remember to.
  • Example of a complex email is : sp33dysm1th@gmail.com.

7. Choose a strong password.

  • Choosing a Strong password will make it tough for hackers to crack your password.
  • While choosing a password you much remember to use Capital letters, Small letters, Numbers and special characters.
  • Example : King300@help.

8. Don't enter your personal information in any kind of pop up.

  • Hackers might redirect you to a real organization website, but then an unauthorized pop up will appear and ask you to enter your Account details or Personal details.

9. Share your E-email address only with your trusted contacts.

  • Share your E-email id with only your friends, family and trusted business contacts.
  • Do not share your email id on any website, forum, post or chat, if you do so your email will be vulnerable to spam emails.

10. Watch out for Phishing Websites Scam.

  • Phishing websites may make you fool and acquire your sensitive information.
