Online Shopping Security

Posted by arvind
Now a day, online shopping has become a part of our day to day life. We get to see a large range of merchandise with efficient cost. Further, it has become easy and quite convenient for the buyer to shop and make payments online. But have you ever wondered about the safety of your payment? Are you sure about the privacy of your bank cards? If no, then here I have some amazing tips to lock the web security and prevent cyber attacks. First let’s know how we are prone to such attacks.

Attackers have always been targeting vulnerable computers. Some create fraudulent sites and intercept the insecure transactions. Therefore, online shopping involves a lot of risk and a buyer should take preventive measures to protect his transactions. Let’s see one by one measure to prevent cyber attacks.

Buy Online Security Before Buying Online

1. Try using familiar websites

Before you go for shopping on any site, keep a check on the websites history. Try not to use remote websites as they may result to fraud. Enquire with your friends or acquaintance if they have ever shopped on that particular site. You can also read the reviews, and before shopping make sure that you’re satisfied with the existence of the online store.

2. Make sure that the address-bar has Padlock

The use of padlock helps you to keep all your transactions secure. Never use sites which do not have SSL (Secure Sockets Lock) encryption installed. You can check whether the encryption is installed or not by the URL (Uniform Resource Locator). Avoid transactions which start with http:// instead of https:// because https:// is considered safe and secure.

3. Keep your browser updated

An updated browser will always have up-to-date security protection. This will keep your transactions secured and reduce the threat of cyber attacks.

4. Privatise your WiFi details

Never allow any unknown person to access your WiFi details as this makes your PC vulnerable to attacks. Set up a PAN (Personal Area Network) with strong pins and passwords. Most of the WiFi connections have default passwords, so your first step should be to change the default password. Further, unsecured connections will enable hackers to access your payment information. Make sure after you complete your shopping you switch off the WiFi.

5. Read Terms and Conditions

As some sites may keep them hidden. Some sellers online may keep hidden condition which might involve extra charge. Most of the sellers keep the price low at first, and as we proceed for payment the price of the product hikes. Before adding an item into your cart, be careful about its extra ad-on prices.

6. Never use public computers for online shopping

When you use a public computer, all your browsing history and even your login information may be accessible to the strangers who use the computer after you. And if you use public computers, make sure you log out of sites which have useful information.

7. Never click on links from spam emails to make purchases

These are the most dangerous types of emails. Most of the sites are fraud. They contain Phishing or malicious links and can download viruses. It further, can steal your sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, or Credit/Debit card details.
